FAQ

The 600V FT6 cables are marked CMP (FT6) and AWM FT6. As a CMP cable it falls under table 19 and the CEC. As an AWM it is not recognized as a building wire. It is meant for Internal and External connections between Appliance devices. This might be required for connections of devices like medical equipment in buildings that require FT6 ratings and to allow for cables connecting equipment in separate rooms to be run through ceiling plenums. It is not allowed to be run in 600V rated trays with power cables. In the past the 600V AWM rating was being used by installers who were making 300V communications runs in 600V trays arguing that the cable is rated 600V when in fact they were combining a 300V system into a 600V tray which is not allowed under the CEC. The CEC has cracked down on this and we would warn installers against doing this.

Product information

The unique jacket color, orange, easily identifies AT-Hom as a BAS cable. A stricter and tighter manufacturing tolerance means a better quality cable than grey generic cable. Made to Canadian BAS specifications, and designed originally with the help of leading BAS system manufacturers.

"FT4" and "FT6" refer to cable classifications according to fire safety standards, particularly regarding their ability to resist flame and smoke propagation.

FT4: Generally used in building risers and residential areas where cables are not in direct contact with ventilation air.

FT6: Required for installations in plenum spaces (drop ceilings) where air is used for ventilation.

Fire alarm cables such as VITALink FAS are usually signaling-grade and follow different listings. VITALink RC90 is a power-capable fire-resistive system rated up to 600 V, designed to keep power and control circuits operating during full-scale fire and hose-stream tests. The voltage limit for the listed splice is 600 V.

The system is listed. Ratings apply only to the complete assembly (cable + supports + listed splices/connectors/enclosures) as installed per the installation manuals. Substitutions void the rating.

No it is not required

Only approved configuratiions can be installed, please check with your Sales representative.

Yes, provide your one-line, conductor sizes, cable lengths, and splice counts. We’ll deliver a bill of materials aligned to the listing (boxes, connectors, tape kits) and include the relevant installation manual for submittal.

Installation must be by qualified personnel familiar with fire-resistive systems and safe electrical practices. Follow all OSHA/CEC rules and the system listing instructions.

No. The listing is system-specific. Use the specified Adalet box, American Connector WT fittings, Thomas & Betts two-way splices, and VITALink® tape kit.

AHJs verify the listed box model, stainless WT connectors, Thomas & Betts two-way splices, VITALink® MC/RC90 marking on the cable, and conformance with the published UL/ULC system (FHIT/7 120) and install instruction IM-120-1.

Installations must comply with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and the specific ULC S139 system listing (FHIT7 120). The cable is constructed to CSA C22.2 No. 123 (RC90), and listed accessories meet relevant CSA standards (enclosures, fittings, splices).

Emergency feeders, fire pumps, smoke control, stair pressurization, life-safety risers, emergency lighting, and critical control circuits where code requires continued operation during a fire.

As of August 2024 it does now include 6 twists per foot.

Vitalink is an approved 2-Hour solution and should be allowed but it may depend on installation and project criterias

A Straight Tape Splice kit and method, with VITALink® silicone tape + glass overwrap, Thomas & Betts two-way copper connectors, and an Adalet stainless NEMA 4X splice box. Follow the required wrap counts by conductor size.

MS/TP uses low speed serial bus (RS-485) ideal for smaller systems, BACnet/IP uses fast Ethernet offering high speed for larger modern building
